VBS Season has begun!!
Throughout June and July, we had the opportunity to help with six VBS Programs – Pierre, SD; Minot, ND; Columbia Falls, MT; Lander, WY; Farson, WY; and Pinedale, WY. (Keep an eye on the pictures pages for more VBS pictures to come.)
The theme of this year’s VBS is based on the Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery Expedition. We encourage the children to join our 'corps of discovery' and learn about the great expedition that charted the unknown territory of the Louisiana Purchase.
Since the Lewis & Clark expedition covers such a vast amount of educational knowledge covering many topics, it is not possible to teach all the information in the short amount of time that we are with the children throughout the week. Therefore, we only touch on different areas of the journey. It is our hope that this will spark an interest in the children's minds to read and learn more about the discoveries and determination of the Corps.
During the Lesson Time, the following Lewis and Clark topics and Biblical Parallels are discussed:
*Their Destination: The Pacific Ocean / Our Destination: Heaven
"The Lord's throne is in heaven." Psalm 11:4
*Their Direction: The Northwest Passage / Our Direction: Jesus Christ our Lord
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way..." John 14:6a
*Their Determination: Battling the Elements / Our Determination: Battling the Enemy
"I can do all things through Christ..." Philippians 4:13
*Their Discoveries: Buffalo and Barking Squirrels / Our Discoveries: Bountiful Blessings
"Blessings are upon the head of the just..." Proverbs 10:6a
During the Bible Time, the children are encouraged to join a Biblical Corps of Discovery. The following principles will be preached: *Discovering Salvation *Discovering Obedience *Discovering Forgiveness *Discovering Service *Discovering Witnessing
In the middle of our VBS Programs this summer we traveled to Red Cliff Bible Camp in the Bridger National Forest north of Pinedale, WY to join their Junior Week. They were very attentive and receptive to the preaching sessions each day. We also enjoyed watching their game times and activities.
We stayed on the mountain at Red Cliff and joined Family Camp once again. It is always a refreshing time for us. This year we had the chance to work with the children during the preaching sessions each day. We taught the curriculum entitled, “Ships of Life.” During the last session, the children had the opportunity to share what they had learned with the adults during a Presentation of the Ships of Life. It was a treat.
After camp, we headed across the state to Sundance, WY for the Annual Bear Lodge Mountains Bible Conference. It was a tremendous conference with powerful preaching and a passionate spirit for the Lord. Our thanks to the Phillips and the church folk at Gateway for another great conference!!
After the conference, VBS season began again as mentioned above. It has been a great summer. Our schedule has kept us busy and enjoying our work. Thank you for your prayers and support!!!!!
